 UNIT 17: STOTIES FOR CHILDREN 
 Lesson 2 - Activity 4, 5, 6
I. OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- Listen to and understand a story and circle the correct answers.
- Complete two gapped exchanges with the help of picture cues.
- Listen to the song The Tortoise and the Hare, complete the lyrics and sing it with 
the correct pronunciation, rhythm and melody.

3. Quality /Attitude: 
-Actively participate in activities with their classmates in pairs, groups or class. 
Educate Ss to show their love and interest in reading books, especially Vietnamese 
fairy tales, recognise what the character is like.

 Diligence: complete learning tasks
Leadership: collaborate with teachers to enhance language skills
4. Competences: 
 Ss can develop some competences:
- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the 
learning tasks

Activity 1. - 4. Listen and circle :9’
*Aims: to listen to and understand two 
communicative contexts in which Ss ask and answer 
questions about a character in a story and circle the 
correct pictures. 
*Context:Four gapped sentences with three answer 
options 
*Audio script:
Once upon a time, there was an ant and a 
grasshopper. In the autumn, the ant worked hard to 
collect food for the winter. The grasshopper was 
lazy. He only sang and danced. Then, winter came. 
The Ant had lots of food. The grasshopper had 
nothing. The ant gave the grasshopper some food. 
The grasshopper thanked
the ant and said: “I’ll work hard like you next year.” 
*Teaching techniques -Look at the picture, listen and

*Aims: to complete two gapped exchanges with the 
help of picture cues.

*Procedure:
- Model the first gapped exchange. Have Ss read the 
dialogue and guess the missing words, for example, 
the name of the character, a question word, an 
adverb of manner. Then draw Ss’ attention to the 
picture and elicit the words to fill in the gaps 
(grasshopper, How, hard). -Ss do the task.
- Have Ss complete the sentences individually. Go 
around the classroom to offer support where -Ss write their answers 
necessary.
-Ask ss to write their answers on the board and -Ss read in front of the class.

- Identify the intonation at the end of the questions while listening.
- Say the chant with the correct pronunciation, stress and rhythm.
